Mt Meru
Mount Meru rises to 4,565 metres within Arusha National Park and is often described as Tanzania’s second-highest peak after Mount Kilimanjaro. While smaller in height, Meru offers a rewarding trekking experience marked by dramatic scenery, wildlife encounters, and quieter trails.
The climb follows forested slopes, open moorland, and volcanic landscapes, with views stretching across the plains toward Kilimanjaro on clear days. Mount Meru is commonly climbed over four days, allowing for steady acclimatization and an enjoyable pace. Because of its altitude and route profile, it is also a popular acclimatization climb for travelers planning to summit Kilimanjaro.
Located just over an hour’s drive from Arusha, Mount Meru is easily accessible and well suited to travelers seeking a challenging hike without the crowds or commitment of a longer expedition. Shorter day hikes on the lower slopes are also possible for those with limited time.
