Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park is the closest safari park to the city of Arusha and one of northern Tanzania’s most underrated wildlife destinations. Compact yet remarkably diverse, the park offers a mix of forest, crater, lake, and mountain landscapes within a short distance of town.

The park is dominated by Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak at 4,566 metres, making it a popular choice for trekkers looking to acclimatise before climbing Kilimanjaro. We recommend allowing a day of rest between climbs for a safer and more enjoyable experience.

Arusha National Park is also home to the Ngurdoto Crater, often described as a smaller version of Ngorongoro, and the striking Momella Lakes, whose alkaline waters attract a wide variety of birdlife, including flamingos. Safari activities here extend beyond game drives and include guided walking safaris, canoeing on the lakes, and scenic nature walks, offering a different perspective on Tanzania’s wildlife.
