4 Day Mount Meru Trek Safari

Day 1 08:00 Pick up from your hotel, transfer to Momella park gates (1 hour). Complete registration formalities. Begin hike of Mt. Meru accompanied by your park ranger through the open grasslands reaching the arch shaped fig tree. Picnic lunch. Continue hiking through the lower slopes of this mountain to reach Miriakamba hut by late afternoon (5-6 hours, 2500m). Dinner and overnight at Miriakamba hut.

Breakfast, 09h00 leaving the Miriakamba hut your trek takes you on a steep climb towards the halfway point-The Elephant ridge, the views of the summit ridge and the park below you are a sight to behold. Continue steadily walking your way up to reach Saddle hut in time for late lunch. Relax at Saddle hut. Dinner and overnight at Saddle hut (3570, 4hrs). Optional-In the afternoon you may wish to visit the nearby little Meru Peak (3820m).

Your day starts rather early (01:00hrs) with refreshments and a light snack, 02:00 hrs begin your ascent to the summit of Mt. Meru passing through the Rhino point (3800m) and onward to the summit of Mt. Meru by sunrise, you have now reached the second highest point in Tanzania (4566 m). From the summit, weather permitting as the sun rises you will have most rewarding views of the Crater rim, the Ash cone and Kilimanjaro floating in a horizon. Continue your descent to the Rhino point for a better glimpse of the Ashcone and onward to Saddle hut for a brunch. Short rest. Continue to Mirikiamba hut for dinner and overnight (2500m).

Late breakfast, continue trekking down to the momella gates, along the way you come across wildlife such as giraffe, Dik-dik and The Blue and White Colobus monkeys. Arrival at the momella gate by 11h00-Bid farewell to your ranger and other support staff. Drive back to your hotel in Arusha.
