Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park lies in southern Tanzania and serves as one of the main gateways to the country’s southern safari circuit. Easily accessible from Dar es Salaam, the park offers a classic savannah safari experience framed by the scenic Udzungwa and Uluguru mountain ranges.

The heart of Mikumi is the expansive Mkata Floodplain, which supports large concentrations of wildlife throughout the year. Game drives here commonly encounter elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, and a wide variety of antelope species. Predators such as lions and leopards are also present, while the open plains make wildlife viewing particularly rewarding.

Mikumi is well suited to travelers seeking a less crowded alternative to northern Tanzania parks or as an introduction to southern Tanzania safaris. Activities include guided game drives and nature walks, offering a relaxed and accessible safari experience within a diverse and scenic landscape.
