This adventure begins in Arusha with an overnight at The African Tulip before ascending through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and glacial zones toward Africa’s highest peak. Trek past First Cave, Second Cave, Mawenzi Tarn, and Kibo Hut, then summit Uhuru Peak via Gilman’s Point at sunrise before descending through Horombo Hut. Ideal for trekkers seeking a less crowded route with steady acclimatization and dramatic views of Kibo and Mawenzi.

Itinerary Details

Day 1 The African Tulip

Arrival at Kilimanjaro airport. Transfer to Arusha for overnight at The African Tulip.
Day 2 First Cave

Early breakfast, 08h30 Drive to Rongai gate (2000m, 5 hrs). Begin the registration process with the mountain authorities and meet the rest of your crew. With picnic lunches begin trekking through the rainforest to reach Fist cave on the edge of the moorland zone (3 hours, 2880m). Dinner and overnight at First Cave camp.
Day 3 Second Cave

Breakfast, 08h00 Begin your second day on Kilimanjaro leaving the rainforest behind you, as you continue hike towards the second cave you will be treated to amazing views of Kibo. Dinner and overnight at Second Cave camp (3450m, 3-4 hours).
Day 4 Mawenzi

Breakfast, 08h00 Begin your third day on Kilimanjaro with spectacular views and cloud covers below you, It is a sight to behold! Your trek this day takes you to almost 4300m at the base of the Mawenzi. Dinner and overnight at Mawenzi tarn hut (4330m, 4-5 hrs).
Day 5 Kibo Hut

Breakfast, 08hOO Begin your day with a spectacular view of the KIBO, where the summit of Kilimanjaro is located. This is your focus on this day, hike to Kibo hut campsite (4750m, 5 hours). Dinner and overnight.
Day 6 Horombo Hut

00h00 After a small snack and a warm drink, begin your trek on a winding path to reach the Gilmans (5 hours, 5685m). Short rest, at this point you will reflect on the hard work that you have done to get to this point. It is an experience that is hard to describe in words. Continue to hike for another 1 hour towards the summit as the sun rises on the horizon, the views that you will glance are worth every effort that you made over the last couple of days. This is your reward for getting to the highest point in Africa (5896m), congratulations! You will then start your return journey to reach Kibo hut campsite (4750m, 2 hours) where your crew shall be waiting for you, you shall be treated to some energy drinks and light snacks. Trek down to Horombo hut campsite for dinner and overnight (3700m, 4 hours)
Day 7 Back To Arusha

Late breakfast, descend to Marangu gate (2hrs, 1800m). Some refreshments along with picnic lunch. Bid farewell to your crew that has been with you for the past several days. Drive back to Arusha (2hrs) for a soothing shower and a celebratory dinner at The African Tulip.
