Saadani is where the beach meets the bush. The only wildlife sanctuary in East Africa to boast an Indian Ocean beachfront, it possesses all the attributes that make Tanzania’s tropical coastline and islands so popular. Yet it is also the one place where those idle hours of sunbathing might be interrupted by an elephant strolling past, or a lion coming to drink at the nearby waterhole!
Located only 130 km north of Dar es Salaam and directly to the west of Zanzibar, Gazetted in 2004, Saadani is Tanzania's newest national park and the only coastal wildlife sanctuary in East Africa. Covering an area of approximately 1,100 sq km, the park offers visitors the unique opportunity to observe Africa's big game and birdlife interacting with the sea - an ideal location in which one can relax on Indian Ocean beaches after each safari.
